The interiors of this metropolitan apartment create a series of sophisticated fusions – light and shadow, smooth and textured surfaces, and individually strong materials designed and arranged to create a narrative of elegant and inviting indoor and outdoor rooms. Great care was also taken with the relationship between significant pieces of art and the contemporary furniture.
The interior design was developed in collaboration with the client’s architect, Pablo Sepulveda, and with Simon Hamui, who created some of the furniture. The beautifully finished furniture and room surfaces feature Italian marbles, high gloss lacquers, and pale Roble wood, a sustainable species of Bolivian hardwood. Gloria Cortina designed most of the furniture pieces, and the exquisite hand-woven rugs.
The general living spaces and the outdoor terrace are characterised by calm colours – greys and browns, for example – and by hand-crafted accent pieces such as a 3m diameter table-top cut from the trunk of a single tree. In contrast, the bedrooms and bathrooms are in cool shades of pale grey and white.
